Intro to Should you Bring or Rent a Stroller for Walt Disney World

Hi.  It’s Tyler here from TheTravelingToddler.com.  One of the most common questions we get about visiting Disney is “Do you Need a Stroller?”  Well the answer if your child is under the age of 8 is absolutely yes!  However, another related question is “Should I Bring or Rent a Stroller for Walt Disney World?”  Well here are the pros and cons of 3 stroller options and my final recommendation (which might not be what you think!)

Renting a stroller from Disney

Pros:

* You don’t have to transport a personal stroller to Disney

* You can pickup a new one at each park

Cons:

* Very uncomfortable

* Cannot take out of the park

* Expensive

* Hard to find the stroller amongst many similar ones

Renting a stroller from a 3rd party service

Pros:

* You don’t have to transport a personal stroller to Disney

* Available throughout your entire Disney trip

* They will usually drop off and pickup

* Many styles available

Cons:

* Expensive

* Rare possibility of losing or damaging it

Our Recommendation

Bring your own stroller.  We usually suffice with a simple umbrella stroller that reclines for napping that can be purchased for less than $50 bucks.  Something we don’t mind getting rained on or stolen.  Most reclining umbrella strollers will fit children down to a few months of age and have 3 or 5 point restraints for safety.

If transporting a stroller to Disney is a problem (like if you’re flying and have to pay a baggage fee), purchase one on Amazon and have it shipped to your hotel.  Most hotels will hold packages for guests.  After you’re done with your trip, just find a family to give it away to.  You’ll find that this is a pretty economical option versus renting from a 3rd party service or Disney if you’re staying for a week or longer.

  1. I think it’s easier to bring a small stroller and not worry about the cost, but I also don’t have to worry about flying either.
